Jump In!

Saturday, May 16th

Please remember to take that shower first!

*The forecast is calling for 66 degrees and partly sunny!  And…
Hot Dogs & Chips will be served from 12:30PM until…they’re gone!

From the Manager:Well hello there!  Things are coming together nicely down at the swimming hole.  The shakedown up to this point has been uneventful and other than a weather delay for some painting, things are coming together and we should be ready to go.   The water will be a comfortable 84 degrees on Saturday, and being opening day it really doesn’t matter what the weather is like, does it?12,896.  That’s the total number of sign-ins last season.  And this is a friendly reminder that all members should sign in when entering the facility.  The only time we don’t need you to sign in is for things that you are charged additional fees for like, aerobics, lessons, and swim team practice and meets.  However, if you do plan on staying at the pool after these activities, then please do sign in.  Got it?  Adult team members, please also sign in.

Now if you have difficulty signing in because you’ve forgotten how your name has been entered into the data base, or perhaps your name has changed, please ask the staff for assistance.  We keep a hard copy on file and can check.  If you need something tweaked, I can usually get that done pretty quickly as well.  During first part of the season there are always a few to figure out and figure it out we will.

Speaking of figuring out things, for well over a decade now this club has been doing a fantastic job of recycling and more recently we’ve been keeping a good portion of our food/yard waste from heading to the landfill as well.  Last season I would estimate 50% of our waste was recycled/redirected, and that’s pretty darn good.  As you are all probably well aware, the city is starting to tighten up the rules on food waste though and eventually we are going to have to be even better at the task of putting things in their correct receptacles.  You can help by taking an extra couple of seconds breaking down those pizza boxes, carefully disassembling and disposing of your Starbuck’s cups and lids.  As for the glass…  glass containers are not allowed at the pool so please remember to leave them at home.

That leads me into reminding all of you to please peruse the pool rules and guest policy online or at the pool.  I encourage you to do this especially if you have children in the family or if it has been a while since you familiarized yourself with them.

A note about wifi.   The pool is really lacking in this area and our options have honestly been extremely limited.  It’s something that I’ve been aware of for a very long time and have actually been actively working on since August 1st last season. I hit wall after wall with Comcast during the 9 months I was working with them.  In fact, I got to the point last month where I had to give up.  The long story is just absolutely unbelievable!  Not all is lost though, many of you have probably seen, or perhaps even signed up for the Centurylink fiber service that is rolling out in the neighborhood.  Well I just met with them yesterday!  Stay tuned!

Also along the lines of interent, I have been working on a new version of the pool website with wordpress.  I’ve gotten a little bit ahead of myself with it and need a hand with redirecting our domain name to point to the new page. I think I know how to do it but just want to make sure it gets done correctly.  If you think you could lend a hand, please let me know.

Well we have a busy swim season ahead of us. I am looking forward to another summer at Wedgwood Pool and I trust you are all anxious and eager to jump in and start swimming. So get out that suit and dig up those goggles and perhaps I will see you Saturday the 16th!

Reminder – it’s a members only weekend and we won’t be scheduling any parties for the first week of operations.

-Raab

P.S.  Next week, it’s the return of the 4, or is it 5 B’s?
