Family Swim Reservation Update

Hello, I hope this finds you in good health.

I have some information to share regarding Family Swim reservations.

With almost two weeks of Family Swim under our belt we have been monitoring the sign-up and usage and we feel that we are ready to implement some changes with regard to reservations for Family Swim.

Starting immediately we are increasing the number of Family Swim reservations from 1 to 2, per week, per family. Our hope is this will make it both easier for families to get more use out of the pool as well as fill up more of these swim slots.

Additionally, families will also be able to register for available Family Swims on a day of basis as well.

Please note that there is a limit of one Family Swim per day.

This change brings our Family Swim reservation policy into alignment with our Lap Swim reservation policy, which on our end with Omnify will simplify things, and keeping things simple in this regard is a good thing.

We will monitor this change and adjust again if necessary.



This Week at WW – August 2nd

Families are back swimming in the pool and while it’s anything but normal, it does finally sound a bit more like summer again.
We want to again acknowledge everyone that’s been coming and following all of these policies and procedures. This entire thing has been challenging in so many different ways, but our members coming in and adhering to what we’ve put into place have really helped things run very smoothly, and is so appreciated. Thank you!
Something we wanted to let you all know about is that Julie Lockhart, who has been handling our Ominfy reservations this season, is dealing with a family emergency. Julie’s brother, Stevie Cairns (who has been a member of Wedgwood since he was little and worked as a lifeguard at WW) was hit by a car while riding his bicycle earlier this week. He sustained serious injuries and is currently in the ICU in critical condition. Julie is taking time to be with her family during this difficult time. 
So we have been in a bit of a transition this past week and we have tried our best to keep things up and running behind the scenes as best as we’ve been able. Our response time may not quite have been as quick as what you may have been used to, but luckily we are at the point this season where we know so much more about how this Omnify beast works. We are also very fortunate that Allison Crossland is stepping into the roll of reservation coordinator for the remainder of the summer. This week at the double dub…

Hello Wedgwood!

As I sit at the pool on this almost 90 degree-day, the sounds of this summer are very different and it seems so very strange. Change is on the horizon though as we will be adding family swimming to the mix starting next weekend. We know many of you have been looking forward to this for a very long time and we appreciate your patience as we sought permission from King County and the State of Washington.

This new schedule will begin to be implemented August 1st, and be fully in effect August 5th, after swim team has concluded. The Omnify system will go live with all of these revisions starting on Monday, July 27th at 9am.

This will likely be the schedule moving forward, at least for the next few weeks, but we will be monitoring and adjusting as necessary. Please keep in mind that these changes have been developed to provide as much opportunity to as many members as possible.

So what’s new in this schedule?  First, after submitting our plans for Family Swim to the state, we are pleased to be able to provide opportunities beyond lap swimming. This will look nothing like the “open” Family Swim time of past seasons, and still must be controlled and regulated in order to meet current Public Health Guidance. We will have the opportunity for families, especially with younger ones, to finally take a dip in the pool. If you would like to add family members to your omnify account, email Julie and she will add them for you (more information on this at the end of the email).

The Family Swim time will allow for two household groups to reserve a designated section of the pool in the baby end and shallow end. The state guidelines require that we limit each group to five people. Similar to the way we initially restricted lap swimming, there will be a cap of one Family Swim reservation per week per family, with one more additional “day of” swim per week as availability permits. The system will not restrict this but we will be monitoring reservations and cancelling swims if needed.

We also require that you adhere to our double diaper policy if you are bringing a child that is not completely potty trained. Any situation where the pool would have to close because of an AFR (accidental fecal release) would create a big mess both figuratively and literally. Please be well prepared ahead of time and have both a swim diaper and diaper cover before coming to the pool as we are not selling them out of the office this year.

Families with kids may bring their own pool toys with them; however, inner tubes, air mattresses, floaties and noodles will not be permitted. Please keep the toys small and the number to a minimum. If you have any question as to whether or not a toy is appropriate don’t hesitate to ask. All toys need to remain in your family’s reservation area and be taken home when you leave.

The Open Lap Swim will be provided at the same time as the Family Swim. There will be 6 lap lanes in the south end of the pool and one walking lane (lane 7). We felt we needed to keep the 8th lane empty as a buffer for maintaining social distancing. Both the shorter lanes (7 & 8) will still be available at Adult Lap times.

This Open Lap Swim during Family Swims will not have the age restriction currently in place for Adult Lap swim. While anyone may still sign up for these times, we will continue to allow only one swimmer per lane in accordance with Public Health guidelines. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards continuously and all swimmers 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult who sits at the end of the lane, wearing a mask, during the swim. Chairs will be provided.

Adult Lap Swim remains unchanged. It is still designated as 16 and up, one swimmer per lane with six full lanes and two walking lanes.

Members may continue to reserve two swims per week across Open and Adult Lap Swim as well as sign up for “day of” as availability permits.

If you have not yet visited the pool this season please keep in mind the following:

  • Wearing a mask at the pool when you are not in the water is REQUIRED (Children 5 and under are not required to wear a mask).

  • Maintaining social distance at the facility at all times is imperative.

  • Swim reservations start and end promptly on schedule. You need to be on your way out the door at the end of your swim time so that we have time to sanitize prior to the next reservation time.

  • To maximize opportunities for members, lessons, private lessons, guests, parties and rentals have been suspended for the season.

  • Locker rooms are only available for restroom and handwashing use (Plan on arriving and leaving in your suit).

  • Outdoor showers are available (we have 3).

  • Flippers, and pull buoys will not be provided, you may bring your own.

  • The diving board, basketball hoop, pool toys, goggle box, and Ping-Pong Table are not available.

  • The water fountains are closed, but the bottle filler is operational.

  • Chairs, lounges, the grills, and tables are not accessible.

  • The upper deck is closed.

This week at WW – July 19th edition

Hello Wedgwood Swim Club Members,

The pool has been in operation now for about a month and we have been monitoring and receiving feedback about how things are going. I would like to convey a great deal of appreciation for your continued patience as we figure things out and try to make the best of this situation. 

We know that many of you would like more reasonable access to signing up for more swimming opportunities without having to go through the day-of, 12:01am thing. This has been especially problematic for people that are still keeping a normal work schedule. Please know that we have been and continue to push Omnify to get that time changed to something more reasonable.

We have been considering a number of changes including expanded hours and limiting the number of total swims per week.

Effective today, we are making a change in the number of reservations per person, per week, so that you will be able to reserve two swims per week instead of just the one. While this will certainly be taking away some of the day of opportunity, our hope is that this will allow more members to have access to an additional swim during the week. We will of course be monitoring this change and adjust as necessary or if needed.

Additional swim times have been added this coming week and we anticipate that in couple of weeks, when the swim team season wraps up, that we will have more available pool time to work with as well.

Currently it looks like other than the changes mentioned above, our operations will continue to be the same unless new guidance comes our way. Let’s hope we can at least maintain where we are with that regard. 

I do have a reminder for our swim team kids. Wear your mask to the pool! We’ve had a run on our limited supply and we need you to remember to bring your mask when you come to practice!

This week at WW – July 13th edition

Hello again. I hope this finds you all in good health and doing well.

At this point, I was hoping for some more guidance from King County as to whether or not we would be able to add family swimming to our schedule. Unfortunately, I heard back from the county this morning and was instructed to continue operations as we are until told otherwise.

As we wait for updates and continue to look for ways to provide opportunities for the membership to use the pool, we are making adjustments to our procedures in order to make sure we can continue to provide a safe experience for all swimmers and staff. We have received a lot of positive feedback about adding our two walking lanes (lanes 7 & 8) in the last week. Moving forward, we will be keeping one lane empty between the walking lanes and the lap swim lanes in order to improve social distancing. We are also asking all swimmers/walkers to either refrain from conversing while in the walking lanes or to wear a mask if you intend to socialize while walking in the lanes. We are happy to provide a mask for this purpose.

We had the heath inspector stop by this past week and he seemed very happy with both our planning and effort in regard to our COVID operations. A big shout out to all of you that have been coming swimming and doing a great job of making all of this work so well!

The health inspector did note that taking a quick soap shower before entering the pool is the one thing we could improve upon. By doing this we will not only help maintain a higher level of water quality while using less chemicals, but we’ll also keep our brand new filtration system functioning at its peak for many years to come. Now we are aware that the showers can sometimes be a bit chilly, and while we do our best to have them be warm at the beginning of each swim, with such limited usage this has sometimes been a challenge. Please try your best to get that shower in though. Thanks!

Just a few things regarding Omnify and the reservation system to touch base on.

Remember you may only swim under a reservation with your name on it. Please do not book a swim for your spouse, partner, or child and then show up in their place. When checking in we will be asking for your first and last name, please make sure that you are indeed the one that is supposed to be swimming. 

We have had some issues with members adding their own family members on Omnify. Moving forward, you will need to contact Julie if you want to add family members to your account. A reminder that only individuals living in your household can be added as family members to your account.

This week at WW

Hello and happy Sunday. It is Sunday, right?
First off I would like to extend a huge thank you! You have been extremely helpful and cooperative with all the policy and procedural changes we’ve been throwing at you. As we move into this week this will be continue to be important as we are making some changes to open up a couple of more spots at each swim, as well as adding our seniors and near neighbor members into the mix.
A friendly reminder, swim sessions are 45 minutes long and you should be on your way out the door at that time. This allows time for the staff to adequately disinfect prior to the next swim session, helping us keep everyone safe. Please also remember that locker rooms are for bathroom use and hand washing only.

Starting this week we will be adding a 7th and 8th lane to each swim time. These two lanes are shorter in length, about half the full lane, and the water is approximately 4 feet in depth the entire length as well. While one could certainly swim in these lanes, our intent is that these lanes be for those that would rather walk in the water than swim. We do anticipate some mix-ups where people think they have signed up for a longer lane, so please pay attention to the description for these particular lanes when making your reservation. 

Still no word or update on any new guidelines from the state or county. We continue to work on planning for that eventuality though, so if/when we get word, we will be able to implement new swimming options as quickly as possible.

Goodbye June and hello July…

The first week is done and I actually think it went better than I had anticipated. Thank you for your patience!

We are still working with Omnify and hoping to be able to move the “day of” sign up to a more reasonable time than 12:01am.  We’re not sure if or when they will be able to implement this change but we’ve heard from their tech support that they are getting many requests for this modification.

And speaking of “day of” sign ups something that we wondering about was confirmed over this past weekend…

If you use a “day of” swim prior to reserving your 1 swim for the week, this “day of” swim counts as your 1 swim for the week. For example, if you make a “day of” reservation on Sunday, June 28th, then you will not be able to reserve a swim in advance during the week of June 28th-July 4th. This is because the Omnify reservation system allows us to set a “1 swim per week” restriction, and then lifts the restriction each day to allow for “day of” reservations. We want everyone to be aware of this! Please make sure to make your reservation for the week before using a “day of” swim! If you have any questions about this, contact Julie Lockhart at:

These are indeed strange times. Health department regulations actually state that our showers and locker rooms are to remain closed. Which given the indoor, tight quarters nature of those spaces makes complete sense. We are lucky to have the outdoor showers and we figured that using them would be okay, and until we hear otherwise we will continue with that. A friending reminder though that these showers are intended only for rinsing off not for the full blown shampoo, soap up, and conditioning routine. Please plan on doing all of that at home. We thank you for adhering to this as we still need swimmers to be promptly on their way out of the facility at the end of their swim time, and in a few instances last week we were running into situations where it was taking a little bit longer than that. Keeping the showers as a rinse off only will help us have the time to thoroughly sanitize prior to the next group of swimmers, and also help ensure that we are keeping swimmer departure and arrivals separated enough between groups to help with that socially distancing thing, which is also part of the county guidelines.

Kickboards are back and we have procedures in place for sanitizing those now as well.

Still no news or guidance on phase 3 and I have a feeling that it might be a while.

Hey there Wedgwood Members!

Good news! The Wedgwood Gear store is now officially open and taking orders until July 5th.  Please see the attached handout for how to access the store and order gear online. The COVID-19 crisis has been especially challenging this year for Sylvia’s and there are some things you should be aware of as a result:

1. There is not the same great variety and selection as years past.  So, there is not the same diversity in gear that you would normally see.  That said, we thought it important to still give our Wedgwood families the option to orders some things as some of our swimmers look forward to this every year!  
2. We realize that ordering is happening much later this year.  Unfortunately, Sylvia’s has been closed and is now in a staggered scaledown production mode of operation.  That said, it will still be 4-6 weeks until the delivery of your items will occur.  
3.  All orders will be shipped directly to your home address.  Sylvias will not be delivering any orders to Wedgwood pool or to PO boxes.  
4. While we know some swimmers may need a swimsuit this year, there is no requirement to have a Wedgwood swimsuit for team events or practices.  
5. We included a white t-shirt in hopes of a future tie dye day.  Feel free to stock up on white cotton masks as well to commemorate summer 2020.
6.  Sylvia’s has promised that next year they will have a much more extensive selection to choose from again including our multicolor logo on the suits and the timeless duffel bag.
7.  We strongly encourage weekday shopping in case you run into log in/website issues.  The office workers typically work week day hours.

Omnify Reservation Update

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we have been getting our new swim reservation system up and running! I apologize for any confusion around getting it set up. This is definitely a learning process for all of us. 

The good news is, all of the permits have been approved for the pool so we will be able to start adult lap swim on Saturday, June 20th! 

The first week of lap swim reservations will be available starting tomorrow, Friday June 19th at 10:00 AM. Remember, because of the limited pool availability at this time, you are limited to reserving one swim per week. If space is available on the day of a swim session, you will also be able to sign up for an additional lap swim starting at 12:01AM on the day of that swim. 

At this point you should have received a welcome email from Omnify-booking. If you did not receive this email, please check your junk or spam folder first, and then email me if you do not see it there. I will help you get set up!

Currently, we are only able to offer adult lap swim for individuals ages 16 & up. We hope to offer more family type swims as we move into phase 2 or 3, but it will depend on the restrictions we are given. 

If you see that a swim is full, you can put yourself on the waitlist, and if someone cancels their swim the spot will automatically go to the next person on the waitlist. 

More information about the lap swim and access to the facilities during this time is listed below:

  1. This is adult lap swim ONLY(Ages 16 & Up)

  2.  There will be 6 lap lanes, and they will be oriented east to west in the south end of the pool

  3. When you reserve a lap swim, you will also reserve a specific lap lane. You will not be able to change this lap lane when you arrive at the pool 

  4. Only 1 swimmeris allowed per lane 

  5. OUTDOORshowers will be available 

  6. Locker rooms will be CLOSEDexcept for use of the toilets & sinks

  7. You will need to exit the pool grounds promptly when your 45 minute swim reservation has endedso that the staff has time to sanitize  in between swims

  8. You are required to complete a self-check for COVID-10 symptoms prior to coming to the pool. These questions will be e-mailed to you with your reservation confirmation and 24 hours prior to your swim.  Masks are REQUIREDwhen not in the water/shower

We are aware that there will not be enough lap swim reservations for everyone to sign up during this first week and we are very sorry about that. Our pool capacity is severely limited due to the current guidelines in place, and we are doing our best to accommodate as many swimmers as possible. We know this is a challenging and stressful time for everyone, and we appreciate your understanding and support for everyone in our Wedgwood pool community.

Pool Opening Update

It’s time to start talking about swimming! 

There’s been a lot going on at the pool over the last several months with major renovations, including a completely new mechanical room. The new system is light years ahead of the original and I’m happy to report that everything is functioning very well.

This same mechanical room is the reason the pool has not opened. As part of any major renovation project of this nature, it must be properly planned and permitted. During the start of the COVID crisis, a change order adding new chemical delivery systems was made to the project. This change order was not submitted to the county, and when we had our final inspection earlier this afternoon, we did not pass. So a little drama remains and a few hoops are left to jump through before we will be “official” and able to legally open the facility. I do believe that it is extremely likely that things are going to line up between now and the weekend so… we are planning on proceeding with our opening day this coming Saturday!

The renovation project has been extremely consuming and we were originally informed by King County that we would not be permitted to open until phase 3, so I thought we had another three weeks to prepare. However, last Monday night the governor surprisingly proclaimed that pools could reopen in modified phase 1. There were many new guidelines to address and so we set to work developing new operating procedures and policies based on the new regulations. I also checked with the county for guidance, but they were also caught off guard and still do not have any written guidance. I additionally moved up the aforementioned inspection from its original date, which was set for next week. It has been a whirlwind.

While reopening without county guidance and attempting to gain approval for the new mechanical room system has been a challenge, I have a great deal of confidence in the reopening plan that our team has developed. This plan is based directly on the state regulations for modified phase 1 regarding pools but with more detail and tailoring specific to our facility. We have had to prepare for the opening in a very different way this year and we want to prepare all of you for a different experience at Wedgwood.

What will swimming at Wedgwood be like in the time of COVID19?

One of the major changes this year will be the need to schedule your swim online. Pre-planning your lap swims, or family visit will allow us to serve many members safely, a few people at a time. This will be a difficult change because part of what we love about Wedgwood is the ability to spontaneously drop-in, but it is a sacrifice that will allow us to open the pool.

Our plan focused on staff and member safety. Our desire is to provide opportunity to enjoy the pool while maintaining physical distancing and a high level of sanitation for everyone. The number one goal is to make sure the pool is a safe place to enjoy.

In order to allow members to schedule swims, we will have an online reservation system, OMNIFY. This will allow for the number of members onsite at any one time to be regulated ensuring adherence to social distancing regulations from the State of Washington. Information about the reservation system is listed in more detail below. A master list of emails will be sent to OMNIFY tonight for all full members, and in the next 24-48 hours you should receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to set up your account, username, and password as well as how to sign up family members in your household. Please note that only one email will be sent to each family, and after this initial message, you will then be able to set up other family members with their individual emails as well.

Once we know we have officially passed our inspection with the county, and that we can legally open the pool, another email will be sent and we will open the system up for reservations. Please see the OMNIFY information toward the end of this message.

In addition to social distancing regulations, the state provided guidance on several aspects of pool operations in order to ensure public safety. We want to make sure you are aware of the major changes to our operations in adherence with these regulations. A few of the changes you can expect when you schedule a visit to the pool:

  • For the safety of our staff and other pool members, wearing a mask at the pool when you are not in the water is REQUIRED.
  • Maintaining social distance at the facility at all times will be imperative.
  • To maximize opportunities for members lessons, private lessons, guests, parties and rentals have been suspended.
  • Locker rooms will only be available for restroom and handwashing use (Plan on arriving and leaving in your suit).
  • Outdoor showers will be available (we have added 2 additional).
  • Kick boards, flippers, and pull buoys will not be provided, you may bring your own.

  • Chairs, lounges, the grills, and tables will not be accessible.

The Wedgwood Pool Board, Management, and Staff ask for the support of the Wedgwood community. Please be patient and kind with staff and other members as we implement COVID-19 protocols to help ensure the pool stays safe and remains open for everyone. We are opening the pool in a phased-in approach where only full members have access through July 6that which point we will be adding our senior and near neighbor members. Currently we are only authorized to schedule adult lap swim, for those 16 and over, with one swimmer per lane. We will continue to monitor the effectiveness of our plan and any new guidance from officials.  We hope to be able to make adjustments as King County enters new phases of reopening.

OMNIFY swim reservation system

You will receive an email from OMNIFY, our reservation system, with your temporary password and a link to the website. Follow that link to update your account information and add your family members. This email will be your primary email for OMNIFY, and you will receive all communication from OMNIFY to this email. We will notify you when swim reservations are available on OMNIFY.
Important Information about Reservations:

1.You need to reserve a spot for EACH family member who will be entering the pool facility, even if they are not planning to swim. We are currently limited by the total number of people allowed on the pool premises according to state and county guidelines.
2.Each family member will be able to reserve ONE swim per week. In order to maximize the use of the pool for all members we need to limit each person to one swim per week. The software we are using is in the process of creating a way to limit reservations to one per week, however this feature has not arrived yet. We will need your help to self-regulate to one swim per week so that everyone in our Wedgwood Family has the opportunity to use the pool. Thank you!
3. If space is available on the day of a swim session,you will also be able to sign up for an additional swim for the weekstarting at 12:01AM on the day of the swim.
4.Reservation swims are available ONE WEEK in advance.
5.There is a waitlist option for full swims.
4.Currently, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the only swims available are Adult Lap Swim (ages 16 & up).
5.You will need to exit the pool premises at the end of your swim reservation time (i.e., if the swim ends at 6:45am, you will need to exit the grounds by 6:45am) so that the staff has time to sanitize the grounds for the next group of swimmers.
