going, going…

all cities
In a word, fantastic!  The All City meet exceeded all expectations, and the months of anticipation an planning came together perfectly.  I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all that stepped up and played a role in making it so successful!  We could not have done it without you!

winding down and…
It’s inevitable and it’s begun.  There’s a chill in the morning air and the days are growing shorter. Some of the staff have already started to head back to school, and before long September will be here.  With our anticipated season end date, Sunday, September 13th, there is plenty of swimming left to be done although slowly over the next several weeks the shift to shorter season operations will occur.  Aerobics starts to wind down this week, ending next.  The week after that EMLS will end, as will both teen and family swims.  So pay attention to the calendar as things are a changing.

While some things will be starting to wind down we also have a few things that only happen this time of year. The first of course is the Watershow this Saturday, August 22nd at dusk, which just happens to be at 8:42pm on Saturday.

We also have:

Finally, Saturday, August 29th – Adult Party 2.0, 7-10pm and Almost Anything Goes 7-9:30pm.

water usage update
It’s not surprising that at this point we’ve already surpassed the total number of swims from last season and we still have a little more than a month to go.  It’s been one for the record books just about any way you look at it including water usage.  We continue to use a humongous amount of water, and our last water bill north of $4700 was a bit of a shocker.  Considering though how busy it’s been, and more closely looking into it, I found that we are only up 12% from last season, while my family’s usage at home has been up 20%.  Ahh… the price of growing tomatoes this season.

cleat exchange
There’s been some cleats exchanged under the bench near the front entrance in the lobby.  Please bring cleats that are only in good condition.  All cleats left over when the pool closes will be donated to charity.

Enjoy,

Raab

ready set…

This week there’s really not much going on other than it’s the lull before the All City storm. There will be no early closures, no home meets, no big events.  Just more swimming and what’s looking to be another round of hot, but not too hot weather.  Oh, and just a little bit of meet prep too.

The mega-bleacher set up will start sometime on Thursday and will necessitate closure of about a third of the west side of the parking lot and the “south beach” grassy area.  We will be setting up other things as well but will do so on the weekend and early next week.

I did want to pass along an FYI that I will be turning down the heat starting either Thursday or Friday this week in an attempt to get the pool temp down to somewhere around 78-79 degrees for next Tuesdays’ meet.  It’s likely going to feel pretty darn cold by the end of the weekend, or at least that’s my hope.  It will be great for swimming laps and taking quick dips, but to be honest it might just be a bit cold for everything else.

Please note that we are not scheduling any parties this coming weekend, but bringing guests in should be fine.  If the weather cranks up like it did the weekend just prior to this past one, this may change, but for now things look okay other than the pool being a bit colder.

Finally, don’t forget, the pool will be closed next Tuesday, August 4th for the All City meet and will also close early at 4pm on Wednesday, August 5th, for the swim team end of the year celebration.

helping hands
I have a couple of people that have said they would lend a hand with parking and traffic control for the All City Meet.  I’m looking for probably a couple more to lend a hand.  We’ll need help primarily from about 12:30-3:30pm.  I’m also going to need a hand disassembling the bleachers after All Cities and I anticipate that to start shortly after the end of the meet, say 7:15ish.  I can use probably 6-8 people for this task.  I’m not sure how long it will take but I’m guessing a couple three hours.  Send me an email or call the pool office and let me know if you’re in.  There are plenty of other tasks that need to be taken care of as well including concessions so don’t be shy. Remember you won’t get another opportunity to volunteer at a WW All City meet for another 14 years!

thirsty club update
Well the meeting with Seattle Public Utilities pretty much confirmed that the higher than normal water consumption is primarily due to the fantastic weather and how busy the pool has been.  We came to a consensus that the shower usage is the biggest factor by a long shot.  So again, if you haven’t had the discussion about shorter showers with your own kids please do so, and if you see others taking longer than they should please let a staff member know.  As swim team winds down now we should see a significant drop in water use.  Remember, every little bit adds up.

water polo
We are getting really close to posting the 2015 details and registration for water polo.

watershow
Sign-ups will get underway later this week.  The Watershow is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd.  Practices will be held the week prior the show and likely start around the 13th or 14th of August.

directories are in
We have way more than one hundred copies of the directory sitting in the office ready for pick-up.  Please do so before next year’s directory is published.

wifi
After 357 days, countless phone calls, emails, and meeting with people a half dozen times, the wifi is finally in!  It was not an easy road to go down whatsoever.

See you at the pool,

Raab
