Hello –
I wanted to send out a mid-week update as things are really shaping up to be a bit on the extreme side weatherwise these next couple of days.
At this time the boiler has been completely shut off to help keep the pool as comfortable as possible. This means the water will likely be a little cooler in the morning but hopefully remain refreshing in the late afternoon and evening. Now it’s not uncommon for the pool temp to increase 5-6 degrees, or even more during this type of weather. Turning the boiler completely off, rather than down, has proven to be the most effective method of keeping the pool water cooler and avoiding the later day bathtub effect.
Now because the boiler is turned off, the showers well, will be a tad bit more refreshing these next few days as well. It’s a bit complicated, but to heat our showers there is a small heat exchanger off of the boiler, the boiler that also heats the pool. t’s a great design most of the time, except when the weather gets really warm. If the boiler were to remain on there’s enough residual heat still remaining from heating the showers that it becomes very difficult, if not impossible, to prevent the pool from continued heating, which during this weather is not so good.
So that’s the story with the pool and shower temps. I also wanted to send out a reminder that tonight (Wednesday) the pool will be closing early at 5pm for the swim team dinner, awards and movie.
In the time since the last news blast went out on Sunday I have also been asked several times about whether or not there will be any sort of limitations on guests during this hot spell. At this time I don’t have a definitive answer, but my gut tells me we won’t likely need to do that. Still, probably not the best time to bring the whole neighborhood down for a swim though. What I can say definitively is that the pool will be open extended hours on both Thursday and Friday until 10pm!
Stay Cool!
