What’s Happening July 16 – 22

Believe it or not we have already reached the middle of the season and with that I spent this past Saturday morning swapping out our dirty filter grids with brand new ones!  Oh the things that make a pool manager happy…

We are in the process of cleaning the grids that were removed and with any luck we’ll make it to the end of the season without another swap out. The one thing that you can do to help ensure our pool, and subsequently our filters stay as clean as possible is to take a good cleansing shower prior to entering the pool. That means just getting wet for a couple of seconds really doesn’t cut it.

Another thing that you can do is to not glop sunscreen on and then hop right into the pool. The same thing goes for the spray product as well. Directions on sunscreen do say to apply 15 minutes prior to exposure. Please do this! Otherwise you waste it, it comes off in the pool, and well, then it’s not screening much sun either. And it will turn those new filters nasty in no time!

Now the perennial question is whether or not the shower will wash off the sunscreen. I would say there has to be a happy place where you can still have sunscreen on and a shower too.

Last thing, for those of you swimming early laps on Monday morning, sorry about the “freezing” showers. I anticipated this and tried to get the showers warmed up a tad for you but our boiler went into what is called lockout mode and shut itself off sometime after we turned it back on last night. They should be warmer on Tuesday.

Enjoy the weather and enjoy the pool!

What’s this?

This is the brand of toilet paper we have been using for the last couple of years and sometime between last season and this season there has been a definite change in it’s composition. While it’s still a green product, and soft as ever, we are finding that this particular toilet tissue actually starts to disintegrate as soon as someone starts pulling on it. This is causing more of the tissue to end up on the floor.

This has made the cleaning methods we have employed in the past basically ineffective as the paper tends to disintegrate even more and with the already moist environment in the locker rooms we are finding that sweeping and vacuuming are both ineffective as well. I want you to know that we are indeed trying our best to figure out a method of cleaning and as we use up the remaining rolls of this product we have started the search for a replacement.  In the meantime, please help us by getting all the paper you pull off the roll into the bowl!
