Time to revisit our Double Down Diaper Policy

  • Every child NOT COMPLETELY POTTY TRAINED must wear a SNUG FITTING NON-DISPOSABLE swim diaper and/or rubber pants over their disposable swim diapers.
  • According to the CDC no swim diaper hold fecal material beyond 3-5 minutes.  By double diapering we hope to get the full 5 minutes.
  • Make it a habit to have your child visit the bathroom before they get into the pool, even if they went at home.
  • Take frequent bathroom breaks – we suggest every 30 minutes.
  • If you observe your child doing their “potty dance”, please take your child out of the pool/deck area and head to the bathroom.
  • If your child is not feeling well, has cramps, diarrhea, tummy ache, do not come to the pool.  Some of these scenarios could potentially lead to a 24-hour pool closure.

Aerobics

Water Aerobics Update – Due to high demand and a desire to not overcrowd our classes, our aerobics program this summer will only be open to our pool members and their guests*.

*Those pool members wishing to bring in an occasional guest may do so, however we will continue to monitor to see whether or not this impacts our ability to maintain a comfortable number of participants. Drop in program fee will apply for guests.

Aerobics runs Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8-8:45am and Tuesday, Thursday 12:05-12:50pm.

Adult Team

Adult Team practices are Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8-9pm. There will not be practice on Monday 7/4. Adult Meet is the morning of July 23rd at Innis Arden.

Save the Dates

JULY 9th

Please join us for an adult party on the upper deck and Almost Anything Goes in the pool, Saturday July 9 from 7-9:30pm. We’ll have beer, wine and food for the adults on the upper deck and snacks for the kids by the pool. This is a good opportunity for newer members to meet longtime members, ask questions and get to know our pool better. It’s always a fun time.

Aerobics

Member season passes are available in the office for $75. Drop in for individual classes is $5.

We expect demand to be pretty high for aerobics this year and as such will be taking a measured approach to how it will roll out. For the month of June, aerobics will only be open for members, and senior users (formerly known as senior members) of the club. After we get a sense of how many members are attending, we will make a decision with regard to opening it up to non-members as well.

We will not be doing reservations for aerobics this year. Our plan is to offer a pass system similar to what we were doing prior to COVID.

Adult Team

Adult Team is back and will begin practices on Monday June 20th. Practices will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8-9pm. The team will be coached by Bridget and Isabel Fetty, Hanna Parker, and Kai Haven will also be helping out a bit as well. Save the date: Adult Meet will be on the morning of July 23rd.

Teen Swim

Teen swim returns on Saturday June 18th. Teens can bring in 2 guest for $5/each on Fri, Sat and Sun after 7pm, and these do not count against the 20 allotment.

Family Swim

Family swim will be back on weekdays starting on Monday, June 20th, from 5:30-7:00pm.  This is a quieter time at the club, perfect for families with small children. Typically the basketball hoop is removed during this time. Keep in mind that those swimmers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult family member during the Family Swim time.

Guest Policy

Each family will be allowed 20 guest visits over the summer at $7.50/guest. A member must with the guest at all times. Member families past the 20 limit will pay $9.50/guest per visit. House guests and boarders pay and count once against the guest limit and are able to use the pool after that without charge. They need not be accompanied by a member. These cases must be registered in the office. House guests with a local regular residence must be cleared by the board. Larger groups of 6-12 people may be considered a party, please see more information below.

Parties and Rentals

Parties for groups of 6 to 12 people can usually be held during regular pool hours. Parties must be pre-arranged with the office. We schedule only one party at a time and for two-hour blocks to lessen impact on other members using the pool. Parties are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. The cost is $7.50 per person, and these do not count against the 20 guest allotment. If prior arrangements are not made, partygoers will be counted as regular pool guests.

The pool is also available for rent when not regularly open.  We can accommodate groups up to 75 people. Rates, times and availability vary.  Contact the office if you are interested in finding out more.

BBQs, Tables and Chairs

The barbecues, tables and chairs are available for ALL to use on a first come, first serve basis.

WWAY Committee May Update

A key issue to resolve in our extended season feasibility study is whether our pool’s current boilers are adequate for year-round operations.

Our Facilities subcommittee has been considering this question. They are trying to determine if the current boilers can keep the water temperature warm enough for swimming given winter wind and air temperature conditions. They also plan to consider options to supplement or replace our current boilers but since these options come at a higher cost, they first want to thoroughly explore whether we can make do with what we have.

Meanwhile, the Operations subcommittee continues reaching out to other pools to learn from their experience. Here’s some of what we learned from Aqua Club:

  • Aqua Club has provided some form of extended-season swimming since 2014.
  • They have found that year-round operation is financially positive.
  • Aqua Club rents pool time to private and public swim (e.g., adult and youth) and water polo teams as well as a synchronized swimming group and the North Shore Fire Department.
  • Aqua Club offers open swim time on Sundays where all members (including families) are welcome, regardless of whether they are winter swimmers.
  • Aqua Club capped their extended-season membership and had to turn away interested swimmers.

May Question of the month:

What do you want to learn about the Committee’s work?

Email your thoughts and questions to this month’s and/or prior month’s questions to WWAYexplore@gmail.com. All input is welcome. We will share a summary of what we heard and provide answers to common questions on our website WWAY Website

Opening Day – Saturday May 14th

Ready, set…  It’s almost time. Opening day is this coming Saturday. The long-anticipated, hopeful to be as normal as possible summer swim season is almost here. Are you ready? I’d like to think I am, but I certainly hope we see some warmer weather soon!

As we enter our third summer of operations with COVID I want to encourage all members and staff to be aware of physical distancing, and to be respectful of others in and out of the pool. While face masks are now optional, our responsibility in keeping the Wedgwood Pool a safe place is paramount. I want to reiterate that if you, or someone in your family tests positive for COVID, has symptoms or an exposure, please stay home and get tested. When you are feeling better, you can come on down and enjoy the pool.

As a staff we will be following these guidelines compiled from the CDC and we encourage you to do the same.

Now let’s get to when the pool will be open… for the first weekend the pool will operate on our typical early season schedule.

Aerobics will also return starting the week of June 20th.

The most up-to-date calendar of pool hours and activities can be found here.

Now there are a couple of things to be aware of the first of which is a good news bad news thing. The good is that we are just finishing up the installation of new starting blocks for our swim team. The bad is that we will not have a diving board this year. The diving board project was initially started last fall, but due to of a combination of problems with permitting, coupled with supply chain issues, the installation of the new board had to be shelved until a later date.

We have also removed the two outdoor pull handle showers and have installed another one of the more permanent showers. There are now two identical showers on the wall outside.

There are still dozens of other things left to do between now and Saturday, but things are falling into place. We will be ready for the opener.

It’s good to be back. See you at the pool!

February Update

We are looking forward to the pool opening in just three months!

Membership Dues
REMINDER:  Membership dues and Senior Swimmer fees must be paid before March 1st to avoid a $100 late payment penalty.  Invoices were emailed to your primary email address in January, please contact Membership (membership@wwpool.org) if you anticipate difficulty with this deadline.

Landscape Parties are Back
There will be two landscape parties this year, March 5th and April 23rd.

We require 3 hours of work per family. In return families will not be billed for the $50.00 landscape fee in 2023. Hours are 9am to 3pm. Some less physical duties available. We really need two people (one each day), with a laptop to check people in (light duty) so hopefully you could stay for the day.

On Mar 5, bring gloves and 5 gallon buckets if you have them, label with your name-so you get them back. We need everyone we can get, to spread chips bucket brigade style on our planted beds. No other tools needed. Kid friendly.

On April 23, a less physical day. Bring weeding, light pruning tools, if you can, the pool has some but never enough for all. This will be general cleanup and tidying, some hill climbing required-east of the parking lot. Kid friendly.

WWAY Update
The Wedgwood Pool Board of Directors authorized a volunteer committee, the Wedgwood All Year or WWAY committee, to move forward with a feasibility study to answer questions such as:

  • Facility needs – what upgrades to the physical plant would be required to operate during colder weather?
  • Permit requirements – what will the City need to know before considering a permit application to extend pool operations?
  • Operational options – when would the pool be open? Who will be using the pool?
  • Communications and engagement – how will information be shared and how can members and near neighbors provide input? What strategies could help mitigate impacts to the neighborhood?
  • Finances – how could an extended season operate in a revenue neutral way without increasing dues for summer members who do not participate?

You can find a copy of the full WWAY Feasibility Analysis Scope of Work here. The WWAY committee is working to answer these questions and others that arise to determine if this project is feasible. If it is determined to be feasible, Full members of the pool would be asked to vote on whether to authorize an extended season program. Our process will be slow and deliberate. While we are still trying to determine how long the Feasibility Study will take, we estimate it could last at least eight months.

Keep in mind that members would be able to opt in to the extended season by paying additional fees. Members happy to swim only in the summer would not be charged for the extended season. The program would be revenue neutral or revenue positive to Wedgwood Pool.

We plan to use these monthly emails to share with you the information we are learning and to solicit your input and questions.

Question of the month: What do you want the WWAY committee to research and share with you before you decide on an extended season program?   Email your thoughts and questions to: WWAYexplore@gmail.com Note the new email address that we will be using going forward! We will share a summary of what we heard and provide answers to common questions in future communications.

Finally, check out our developing WWAY website (WWAY Website) where we will post information as we learn it.

Thank you!
Your Wedgwood Pool Board

Happy Holiday Weekend

The end of the season is rapidly approaching and from the look of the forecast our summer weather is also about to take a turn late next week as well. Closing day is Sunday, September 12th so there’s still a little bit of time to come on down and hop in the pool.

We are no longer scheduling larger groups for the remainder of the season, and up until the last weekend our guest limit of 5 per family per visit should remain in effect. Also the last weekend of operations will be for members only.

Please double check the hours listed below and/or the calendar here before coming down as we are now operating on a reduced schedule.

Enjoy it while you can!

Steve on Landscaping…

WW Landscape Parties Sept 18 Sept 25

  • Time 10am to 3pm
  • Check in at the pool office so I know you attended and indicate whether you want a refund of your landscape fee, or to donate it to the pool reline fund.
  • Restroom open-bring a mask. You must mask up indoors. Hand Sanitizer in the lobby.
  • Please no children/children under vaccination age. This will be heavy work and power saws will be in operation-weeding-cleaning up (wear gloves, we have some trash to pick up) and a lot of big branches to haul to the parking lot. This will all take place in the south bed-outside the fence-landscape.
  • Bring hand saws/battery operated Saws-all, if you have one (I will have blades for you) pruners-loppers/weeding tools/and above all, gloves.

Given the state of life today, I am suspending the 3-hour rule. Work as much as you can or longer if you want. Worried about Covid? I understand- see you in the spring.
