What’s Happening – June 25th – July 1st 😎

From the Manager

Ready, Set… Full summer ops are finally here! And it is a very busy week to kick things off. On top of everything that normally goes on we also have not one, but two home meets, so the pool will be closing at 4pm on both Tuesday and Thursday. It’s also team picture day on Tuesday, the schedule for that is below. Swim team tie dye activity is taking place on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. And to cap it all off the swim team overnighter on will be Saturday night (registration form here).

Just a reminder to the early morning lap swimmers that starting tomorrow lanes 1 and 2 may be utilized for swim team practice starting at 7am. Also keep in mind that the locker rooms will likely be much more crowded now as you exit this swim.

Some ideas are starting to circulate regarding what to do with regard to our water polo program.  I hope to have a plan moving forward fairly soon.  Again though, if you know someone interested, available, and qualified to take on the task of coaching, please have them contact me at manager@wwpool.org.

Go!

What’s this?

It’s a thirsty bee! Remember to Bee Careful on sunny days when walking around the pool deck, especially in areas where the deck is wet, at the entry stairs, ladders, and diving board.

What’s happening this week at the Double Dub…

From the Manager

Things generally seem to be going very well around the pool, and looking ahead, better weather appears to be right around the corner! AND only two weeks to go until we make the switch to the full summer swim schedule!

Some odds and ends this week…

Pool Calendar

We frequently field questions regarding what the pool schedule is. Those of you wondering might check out this link to the pool calendar as it is the go to spot for what’s happening and will be the most accurate and up to date source of information. Once you get to the page, the calendar may be viewed by week, month, or agenda. and it can be printed out as well.

EMLS

Early Morning Lap Swim started last Monday and will run weekdays for the season,
6-7:30am. I wanted let you know that we will be opening up the building/locker rooms a bit before 6am in an attempt to actually have you be able to hop right in and start swimming at 6. Also, we ask that until school is out, and we make the switch to the full summer schedule, that you are mindful of your time needed to get out, get dressed, and be on your way. We would like to wrap up/lock up no later than 7:45am.  Finally, please remember to sign in!

Aerobics

Aerobics will be back on Monday, June 25th. Here is the schedule:
12:30-1:15pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
8:00-8:45am on Tuesday and Thursday

Guests

Each household has up to 20 guests per season at $5.00/each. After the first 20, additional guests are $7 each. Register all guests at the pool office when you bring them.

Special Guest Categories
  • Care Givers:  Member’s children cared for by a “babysitter” must register their sitter at the office.  No guest fee will be charged for the sitter.  The sitter is allowed to use the pool only when responsible for those children.  Please register sitters at the beginning of each season.
  • Houseguests: Must be from out of town & living at member’s home.  Register at office with beginning and ending dates of stay. One time fee during stay is $5.00/person & count once against the 20 guest limit.
  • Teen Guests:· During full season operations teens can bring up to 2 guests any day after 7pm for $2.50/each, and do not count against the family annual allotment.
Pool Parties

Parties are geared for or a group of 6 to 12 people must be arranged through the managers or head guard in the pool office and are held during regular hours. Cost is $6.00 per guest, and does not count against the family’s 20 guests $5.00 limit.  Reservations must be made IN ADVANCE.  We ask that you limit your party to 2 hours.

Pool Rentals

Ideal for larger groups, rentals may be scheduled on Friday or Saturday PM after regular hours, or Saturday AM before pool opens. Afternoon rentals may also be available while school is in session.  2 hr rental = 1.5 hours in pool with last half hour out of pool.  Costs vary depending on size of group.  Please contact Raab at pool office for more information or to schedule a rental.

BBQ reminder

In doing my rounds one night last week I found a bbq left on.  Please double check that when you are finished that the bbq is OFF. Also, please turn off the tank.

Internship – last call

Are you 14-15 years old? We’ll be offering the internship again this year. The deadline for signing up is this Friday June15th. For more information and an application click here.

Looking Ahead

  • Adult Party and Kids Fun Float, Saturday, June 23rd 7-10pm
  • Adult Team – Workouts begin on Monday, June 25th and will be Monday and Wednesdays from 8-9pm.  The Adult Meet date has changed and will now be the morning of Saturday, July 28th at Aqua Club.
  • Swim Team Overnighter, June 30th – July 1, details to come.

What’s This?
This is our almost vintage pool vacuum. I remember former Wedgwood Manager, Peter Klein buying this thing over 30 years ago. Once a week we still use this thing to help clean up the pool. Additionally, we now have not one, but two robotic “Dolphin” pool cleaners with one of them deployed on a daily basis. It doesn’t take much to mess up the pool, so please, if you could help us by keeping those band-aids, bobby pins, and whatnot out of the pool to begin with it would be much appreciated.

Counting down the days…

Hello June!

And here we are, already June!

The opening couple of weeks were pretty. Darn. Good.

The shift to the early swim team practice is working out better than anticipated and as of today we now have 180 kids signed up! That’s 16 more than last year, and there are over 30 new kids on the team too!
The swim team committee wanted me to remind those that have been trying out swim team that at this time all swimmers attending swim practice must be registered in Team Unify. Any questions? Email: swimteam@wwpool.org
So the big thing that’s happening this week is that Early Morning Lap Swim is starting up. It begins on Monday morning, June 4th, and will run weekdays, 6-7:30am. While this swim has never really been crowded by say, Meadowbrook standards, the extra time will hopefully allow those partaking to have a more enjoyable experience. One thing that can help to better ensure this is if everyone swimming during this time is aware of some pretty common lap lane etiquette.

The basics – Figure out what your speed is relative to the others swimming in your lane. If you are are moving faster than the other swimmers, move into the faster lanes, and if you are going slower than others in your lane, move into a slower lane.

I would suggest circle swimming all of the time as well. We did have a collision last year during EMLS, and if possible, I’d certainly like to avoid this from happening again.

Something to note is that will soon be “labeling”  all of the lanes. We’ve got more signs ordered, so in the very near future all lanes will have a speed designation.

I know that old habits can be hard to break, and some of you have been swimming  in your own lane now for decades. While we’ll try to work the best we can with making accommodations, for the enjoyment and safety of everyone swimming we ask that our lap swimmers adhere to the aforementioned.  Thank you!
See you at the pool, but probably not at 6am…
