Thank you to Kristin Hill for being our gear coordinator once again!

Swim Suit Swap- No Logo Change this year

Bring your too small Wedgwood Team Suits to the swap table. There will be folks needing those out grown suits and maybe your kids will fit into someone else’s hand me down.

Timer Training

Wondering what volunteering as a timer involves?  Find out during Swim Suit Fitting night.  Lead time Jeff Haven will be there with stop watches to demo and train.  It’s actually kind of easy, fun and you get snacks!

Timers get to know most of the swimmers by name.  Get the best seat in the house for those finishes.  Get splashed by cool water on those hot days by start dives and flip turns.  Have fun and make new friends.

Thanks,

The Wedgwood Swim Team Committee

Evening workouts continue Monday – Thursday.

Double Down Diaper Policy
Last summer we had an unusually high number of “incidents” resulting in closure of the facility. Poop happens though and unfortunately sometimes is does happen in swimming pools. This season in an effort to prevent or at least minimize these sorts of incidents we are implementing a double swim diaper policy. Prevention is better for all of us.

  • Every child NOT COMPLETELY POTTY TRAINED must wear a SNUG FITTING NON-DISPOSABLE swim diaper and or rubber pants over their disposable swim diapers.
  • According to the CDC no swim diaper hold fecal material beyond 3-5 minutes.  By double diapering we hope to get the full 5 minutes.
  • Make it a habit to have your child visit the bathroom before they get into the pool, even if they went at home.
  • If you observe your child doing their “potty dance”, please take you child out of the pool/deck area and head to the bathroom.
  • If your child is not feeling well, has cramps, diarrhea, tummy ache, do not come to the pool.  Some of these scenarios could potentially lead to a 24-hour pool closure.

There will be a limited number of both disposable and non-disposable swim diapers available for purchase in the office but we may not have appropriate sizes available at all times so please plan on being prepared.

Hip Hip Hooray it’s Opening Day – Saturday, May 20th!

From the Manager

What do you know?

The pool opens and on cue, we have spring if not summer like weather on the way!  I’ll take it as a good omen.  We’ve endured such a long wet winter… I know I’ve never been more ready for the pool to open.  Now let’s keep it open…

As many of you remember last year we had a not so little issue with pool contamination. This season we are implementing a plan which won’t likely stop all closing related incidents but should help curb their numbers considerably.  Essentially we will be doubling down on diapers.  The policy can be found outlined below.  If you have a child, grandchild or a guest who is under 3 years of age and not completely potty trained please become familiar with it.  Also note that there will be a limited number of both disposable and non-disposable swim diapers available for purchase in the office but we may not have appropriate sizes available at all times so please plan ahead.  Amazon has plenty of options, and if you order now you’ll be set the first time you come to swim. Thank you!

And it should go without saying…

The sign in system has been updated and should have carried over any changes that were made last season.  Every year though we do have a Robert that becomes a Bob or Jennifer that becomes a Jenny sort of thing.  Those are easy to change just leave me a message in the office with the details. Guests are not in the sign in system but do need to be checked in when you arrive.

Speaking of guests, please note that the first weekend the pool is open will be for members only and that we will not be scheduling any parties to occur during the first full week either. Thanks for understanding.

Other significant schedule related things this month relate to lap swims, as in plural. Early Morning Lap Swim will start on Tuesday, May 30th and run weekdays from 6-7am. Additionally I am trying to figure out how to best work with both the current, and probable future Seattle Public School end times. Fortunately staffing this year is such that we have a solid bunch of early returning college staff and are able to offer an Adult Lap Swim from 2:30-3:30pm weekdays right before the pool opens for general open swim time. This will also start on Tuesday, May 30th and run until June 26th. In the near future I’ll revisit lap lane etiquette as by then I’m sure there will have already been issues, in the meantime, circle swim and share those lanes!

Some scheduled maintenance over this off-season ended up being impacted by the wet and cold weather. We actually had a couple of significant repairs to the pool slated in April but they have had to be pushed into September as they require both dry and relatively warmer conditions to effectively be completed.  Temporary repairs have been made that will get us through but the punch list is already growing for the next off-season.

One thing you will likely notice is that the pop machine is no longer with us. The constant battle with it becoming jammed and not working along with proposed price increases just didn’t make sense to keep it any more. Interestingly when it was actually taken away we found it had been hiding some rot damage to the pool building as well. With the pop machine removal we did upgrade our drinking fountain and members at the work party earlier this month found it to be a nice trade off.

I know that I’m probably forgetting something but since I have the rest of the season to figure that out I’d better just get back to work getting the place ready to go. Welcome back!  Get ready! And don’t forget that sunscreen. Oh, and there will be hot dogs at noon on Saturday too.

See you at the pool!
