August
The forecast ahead looks like it’s going to be down right hot by the end of this week. Good news, and there aren’t any early pool closures on the calendar, in fact, the pool is scheduled to stay open until 10pm on Saturday night! We’ll also likely be open a bit later on Friday too but we’ll make that call later this week and will post updates on Facebook and at the pool.
There’s an upper deck adult party on Saturday which starts at 7pm. Rumor has it there will be live jazz as well. Come check it out and the kids can enjoy fun floating in the pool also starting at 7pm. Please note there will not be lap lanes open during this time.
The following week on Tuesday, August 23rd, our senior members will be having a dessert potluck starting at 7pm. Seniors, more information will be coming in a separate email.
Watershow – Saturday, August 27th starting around 8:30pm. Put it down on your calendar now as it’s something you don’t want to miss.
wedgewood swim poo
No that’s not a typo… I was reconciling my credit card statement this weekend and noticed a couple of charges to the aforementioned Wedgewood Swim Poo. Yes, POO.
Now it seems like we’ve had an unusually number of these incidents this summer and one could reason that any number other than zero is too high. Currently we are at 4 for this season. Compare that to last summer with one, 4 does seem excessive, but when compared to they typical amount which is 5, sadly we are right on track.
The use of snug fitting swim diapers for all children who are not potty trained or who have just newly achieved potty training is not an option. Keep in mind while we do keep a few swim diapers in various sizes in the pool office, we recommend though that you plan in advance as we may not have the appropriate size on hand.
The CDC also recommends bathroom breaks and checking or changing the diaper, out of the water, not in the pool or next to the pool, every 30 minutes. Also, individuals that have or recently had diarrhea should not use the pool whatsoever! Your compliance with this is necessary and important for the enjoyment of all others using this facility.
Even despite the best intentions, intervention, and efforts, it’s still going to happen. Keep in mind that the health department guidelines for facility closure after contamination vary depending on the type of contamination and the chlorine levels when it does. It could be anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours. So please, please, please, diaper up, check often and take bathroom breaks!
On a related note, please don’t pee in the outdoor shower.
a note about pool temp
It’s a bit of a balancing act to get 200,000 gallons of water where it feels good. 84 degrees is the normal operating temp of the pool. It’s that happy medium where most activities can take place without being too cold nor too warm. When the weather gets hot though it’s much more difficult to keep the water comfortable. On hot days where the air temp will be in the mid 80+ range we a shoot for somewhere right around 80 to 81 degrees as the starting pool temp for the day. So for the early morning lap swimmer not moving too fast they may indeed feel a little bit of a chill but by the mid to late afternoon the pool temp will actually come up and be somewhere between 84-86. Again, that ideal is 84, and if we were to start the day at 84 the temp later in the day can push into the upper 80’s which is not really that pleasant nor refreshing for anyone.
early morning lap swim
Sleep in a little longer, morning lap swim now runs until 7:30am on weekday mornings. Please note, the last day for morning lap swim will be Friday, Sept 2nd.
water polo
Planning ahead, Wedgwood will host the SSSL Water Polo Championship on Thursday, September 1st. The pool will be closing at 3:30pm that day as the matches will get underway at 4pm. The north end of the pool will not be open for any swimming during this time.
