Stowing your stuff
I think when it comes to feeling safe and secure, the Wedgwood Swim Club fits that description pretty nicely.  Thankfully it’s pretty rare that something happens where that sense of security is compromised but every once in while even we have an issue. Usually it’s in a locker room where something disappears but thankfully even this happens only about as often as a presidential election.

So, being an election year I would like to remind you that you are always welcome to check your wallets, purses, keys, phones, etc. in at the pool office.  As far as swim bags and such, many people feel more comfortable taking them out on the deck instead of leaving them in the locker room.  Really it’s about whatever works for you and your comfort level.

You may also choose to bring a lock with you for the lockers as well, but we ask that you take that lock home with you when you leave for the day.  Now there are occasions when leaving a lock on a locker is permitted, but those instances should be cleared with the pool management in advance.

Finally with the summer season about to swing into full gear next week there will be events such as swim meets where there will be many more people coming into and through the club.  Locker rooms during these times are difficult at best to monitor so please keep that in mind when, where and how you decide to stow your stuff.

See you at the pool!

SHOWERS

Rub a double dub, please give yourself a scrub! Yes this week let’s talk about taking that shower before you get into the pool. Now I just made the mistake of Googling “shower before entering pool” not something for the faint of heart!

Taking a shower before entering the pool is probably hands down the most universally ignored pool rule, PERIOD. It’s something that the staff will be upping their enforcement efforts on in hopes that there will be a corresponding increase with compliance. Now the pool staff won’t necessarily be checking to see how well you’ve indeed scrubbed, but they will be asking/reminding you to take a shower.

Remember we all want to swim in a clean pool and it starts with a good, cleansing shower. Doing so helps keep all of the nasty things out of our pool. It also helps to extend our filter runs and allows us to use less chemicals as well. So do your part and educate your kids too! Get wet, wash off that stuff that otherwise will end up in the water! Your fellow pool members will appreciate your efforts!

Thank you very much!

It’s hip to be square

Well we’ve entered the 21st century now and besides cash and checks, we now accept credit cards as payment at the pool.  Please note that there is a fee which we are passing through for using your card but the choice and convenience are available if you so choose.

Time Flies
It was a sunny day, a day not unlike today, way back in June 1986.  Peter Klein the pool manager here at the time handed me a key and put me up in the guarding rotation. I do recall that entire first summer as being something sort of magical and since that time I have considered this club pretty much my second home. One thing for sure is that I had no inkling whatsoever that I’d still be here all these years later.  Time has certainly flown by!  And while the world has changed dramatically in the past 30 years, the Wedgwood Swim Club has seemed to somehow stay for the most part the same club it was that I walked into back then. To me that’s a pretty neat thing and something I hope continues for years to come.

Now even though it really feels like mid-summer we are still operating on our part time schedule. Things will start to ramp up a bit more in a couple of weeks.  Before we get to the gist of what’s coming though there are a couple of things I’d like to touch base on.

The first is our sign-in system.  Do or did you have trouble signing in at the pool? Our sign-in system is, well, pretty old school when it comes down to it.  Each one of you has been manually entered into it at one point. Of course new members to the club were added this year and that’s where some of most recent glitches have come up but I have also noticed sometimes the Rob, Bob, Robert or Jennifer, Jenny sort of thing going on too.  Keep in mind that our system only will recognize a name exactly how it was entered.  If you cannot remember if you were say a Mike or a Michael we do have a book on file where we have all the names listed and can look it up.  Names can also be changed as well, please just leave me a note with the desired changes along with the family name that the membership is under.  I’ll make the change as soon as I’m able.

While we’re on the topic of signing in I also want to remind those of you with with different family names under your membership that each family, whether full or senior, has only one card. That card may be listed under your spouse or partner’s last name and not yours. It’s been coming up a lot this past week.  The easiest fix is to check that other name first.  If you’d like to change how that’s listed on the card please contact our membership chair.

The other thing I’d like to revisit are a set of expectations that came about several years ago when let’s just say things were a little less than magical.

Please remember that Patrons at the Wedgwood Swim Club are expected to behave in a manner which:

  • is not-violent and non-threatening.
  • shows respect for other patrons and staff.
  • shows respect and care for property.
  • maintains the safety of themselves, other patrons, and the staff.
  • allows the staff to perform their duties and maintain a safe environment.

Read on to see what’s coming down the pipe… I’ll see you at the pool!
